Hello!

Hi, I'm Sharon. My art is a culmination of my love for nature, kitsch, and Sci-Fi-inspired portalscapes. As a mixed-media artist, I often feel more like a scientist—experimenting with materials like encaustic medium (beeswax + damar resin), oil paint mixed with cold wax, and layered acrylics and spray paint. I also incorporate materials such as metallic inks, sand, paper, glass beads, gel medium, glow-in-the-dark pigments, holographic effects, and gold leaf

—to name a few.

In my gallery, you'll find various series. Over the years, these bodies of work have started to morph and blend into one another—much like portals themselves. This deepened my connection to the creative process and continues to inspire new directions.

I create paintings in all sizes and on a wide range of surfaces—from 2x2-inch canvases to 40x17-foot murals. My materials are constantly evolving. Some are traditional art supplies, while others are found, handmade, or unconventional

—like encaustic molds, natural and alcohol inks, and even a good ol' chunk of rust.

Sometimes the subject matter inspires the materials; other times, the materials spark the imagery. Each composition becomes a tapestry of intuition, lived experience, and dreamy spaces, and sometimes with a dash of humor and a slice of ambiguity.

Inspired by life, I resist being pigeonholed into any one category or label. I see life as a series of unfolding portals—each one an opportunity for reflection, reinvention, and creative exploration.

This perspective has always guided me, but has become essential in recent years.

For many years, I was part of a creative team with my late husband, Zach—also an artist.

Our business, EverBern, was an intensely collaborative and joyful chapter.

Zach passed away on August 14, 2023. One of my responses to that life-altering loss was the creation of

Camp Portalistic

—a passion project born out of grief, healing, and creative & self-discovery.

I've lived a beautiful life, despite the dark days, and realize that if I'm lucky, I'll have many more ups and downs to experience.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and if you'd like to know more about my background and experience, please read below

Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions about my art.

Thank you for the support.

Statement & Bio

Sharon is a mixed-media artist, teacher, and writer who views life as a series of unfolding portals—each one an opportunity for reflection, reinvention, and creative exploration.

With a BFA in Fine Arts (emphasis in painting and drawing) and a Master of Arts in Teaching, Sharon brings over 25 years of experience as both a working artist and educator. She has taught in urban and suburban elementary schools, community programs, and higher education settings. As an adjunct professor, she specialized in fine arts methods and cross-curricular education, helping aspiring teachers integrate creativity across subjects. Her classroom work is deeply rooted in project-based learning, and she holds a lifetime teaching license for all subjects in grades 1–6.

Sharon has exhibited in over 50 local shows and sells her original paintings—from intimate pieces to large-scale works, murals, and commissions—in shops and galleries throughout her community. Her work in mixed media is layered and playful - often infused with her love of science, the natural world, Sci-Fi mysteries, and humor. She enjoys adding references and dimensions to other artists, math, and myths to build curiosity within an ambiguous world.

Currently, Sharon is building Camp Portalistic, the name of a book she is writing, as well as an evolving digital space for self-discovery through the arts - both exist for similar reasons. The website is more of an evolved “current” space for Camp Portalistic, as it has origins dating back before the book itself. The website is Sharon’s portfolio, as well as a growing community hub and creative playground. Camp Portalistic will invite others to explore portals of their own—through visual art, writing, movement, humor, storytelling, and more. It’s a modern reimagining of the creative camp: inclusive, curious, and wide open to possibility.
